We have to admit that crypto just isn't as cool as it used to be for many people. Chris Dixon explains a16z Crypto's rebranding to a16z Frontier by saying: "As blockchains have become more widely used, the lines have blurred and the infrastructure has gradually receded into the background." I understand this point. actually crypto has always been intertwined with other applications. It used to be front and center. Now it's fading into the background. Remember the FOMO around DeFi, NFTs, GameFi... (and the metaverse?) Crypto was synonymous with innovation and the frontier of technology. No conversation about the future of tech and the internet felt complete without it. Today, much of that excitement has faded. Most non-financial use cases have struggled to gain meaningful adoption, while speculation still dominates. Beyond serving as infra for stablecoins and RWAs, prediction markets and perp DEX may be among crypto's biggest native use cases.
