  1. Farcaster is an open protocol, so anyone can build a client for it, where anyone can post, follow people, join channels, and DM. There are only a few out there right now, and we'd love to see more. A few to try or build on: -Selfcaster by @genuinejack. Your own client on Vercel in about ten minutes -Our reference client is open source, and @dwr wrote a guide for getting it running with your agent -Firefly on iOS - get your Farcaster, Lens, and X accounts all in one place If you want to build one, @balajis.eth's $2,048 client bounty is open until Saturday morning, and every entry still needs someone to test it. 2. Thank you to everyone who submitted, tested, and engaged with the $2048 FOR FARCASTER CLIENTS prize! Huge shoutout to @chancetaken, @vrn.eth, and the NS community members who helped test and judge submissions. Prizes have been sent out to each winner’s Farcaster wallet. 1st place, $2,048: @0xabhii for Castyard farcaster.0xabhii.xyz One command, npx castyard client, and you have your own Farcaster client running on your laptop. It reads from a Snapchain read node, hands itself a gasless app key from a test account, and confirms every cast by reading it back from the node. The README explains FIDs, custody addresses, app keys, Snapchain messages, read nodes vs validators, and storage in a few plain lines each. You can also show or hide casts based on which app made them. 2nd place, $512: @ramitphi for Phunk docs.phunk.social A Python client and library that talks straight to a node’s HTTP API. Install it with pip, run phunk feed, and you get the last day of casts from everyone you follow, with a label for the app that signed each one. Hide any app you like. Gasless app keys for posting, plus a mini app. Honorable mention, $128: @cashlessman.eth for Kite kite.sahban.dev/guide A full web client with a step-by-step guide, plus tester casts collected on its endorsements page. Honorable mention, $128: @aap for runfcx antonpecherkin.github.io/runfcx A different take on three commands: one prompt to Claude Code or Codex provisions the server, starts the node, and builds the client. Four people ran it and vouched for it. Extra thanks to everyone who sent PRs to the farcasterxyz repos, the next builder gets an easier road because of you. Keep making clients. More of them means more ways to be here!

  3. For some reason FC bugged out and the cast isn’t showing up here. Doing a re-post of my original Farcaster cast as the replies and everything aren’t registering as well. So let’s try that again… I'm happy to present to you, 'The Fall of Farcaster' - A fictional Disney-esque villain anthem themed around the acquisition. At the time, my sources were telling me Mask acquisition was looking quite realistic, and I thought a little satirical piece would be fun to make. Obviously, building something on an unconfirmed prediction is not always the best thing to do, as the outcome now is obviously very different lmao. But I think the theme still rings true, so I pushed it to production. This could perhaps be counted in the Farcaster multiverse where Farcaster was acquired by Mask. About 3 weeks ago, I came across this wonderfully villainous song on Suno produced by NovaPulse Club (Now Lavyinx) suno.com/song/c8ac65c6-27bc-42de-9d3e-6c825060da89 NovaPulse Club graciously allowed me to remix their song for use, and now here it is :) Also, just advising I've got nothing against @suji šŸ˜‚ We know you have a good sense of humour. You do make a splendid villain in this clip, hope you enjoy.

  4. I still often think about the Westrum model for defining culture within an organization His research (from 40 years ago) characterized organizations as having one of three predominate cultures: 1) Pathological - power oriented, political, people hide information out of fear 2) Bureaucratic - rules oriented, "process for the sake of process", tends to create a lot of silos and illusion of progress 3) Generative - performance oriented, mission focused, people way more focused on value creation over internal politics and process If you've ever experienced true generative culture (which is quite common in tech companies), it's hard to work in any other type of environment

  5. Yesterday in our livestream @balajis.eth shared he does not care about DAU (daily active users) Exact quote: ā€œdo i care about daus? i do not care about daus.ā€ He went on to reference @sriramk.eth ā€˜s post about building something no one else is measuring (linked here: sriramk.com/building-unmeasurable-things) And then went on to explain his motivation to build farcaster into a place for learning and earning, and why education and academia are important (but with plenty of need for improvement from its current state). His words were a breath of fresh air to me. You should absolutely listen to the whole episode but if you want to skip right to this part here’s the link: youtube.com/watch?v=yaobajMRpck&t=8240s (Ps - for those following along in my coding adventures, I recently improved the transcript generation for our episodes and I’m loving how much easier it is now to find relevant snippets and clips from our show. If you want to see the full episode transcript, with speaker identification, check out this link: gmfarcaster.com/episodes/ep398/transcript and you can search for DAU to find the part where we talk about it, and clicking on any time stamp will bring you to that part in the episode)

  7. lens ecosystem is one of the best designed in decentralised social, but any time I look at it I have this feeling that everything looks amazing and nothing makes sense the lens.xyz > onboarding.lens.xyz sequence is a good example of this "create account" leads to "create account" and suddenly I have to connect a wallet; if I hit "explore" i'm looking at 5 apps but still don't know how wallet / account / username fit together I like that Lens makes the different apps visible, that's part of what makes decentralised social interesting but I think these patterns expect users to know too much coming into the experience and don't give enough focus to the possibility of creating your own client, which is much (much) easier now

  8. as we’re seeing, networks can change hands and rules. but the connections and contributions we've built as participants shouldn’t depend on either. with the @quidli/connect-mcp, your agent can write attestations for you directly onchain for the accounts you've collaborated with, whether on farcaster, github, x, telegram, etc. these then exist in a public record that any app or agent can then verify, without relying on the app where it happened or the app's owners. add the connect mcp with an API key to try, for more details read:

  9. 29 Seconds of @balajis.eth on /gmfarcaster ... What did you miss? A 2.5 hr marathon...here's your 29 seconds+ * In one sentence: Crypto civilization not crypto anarchy. Anarchy is better than totalitarianism but it leaves you out in the forest with no home. You need to re-civilize which is basically civilization. * The Farcaster 'meme' is not building or trading, but earning--or earn and learn. * I (balajis) don't believe the world needs another social network, another crypto trading app, or even another uncensored anything. * We want a thank you culture, not a *blank* you culture. Be polite or go find another client. There will be FCC broadcast standards (American TV & radio standards for what can air on broadcast TV)--figuratively speaking. A lot of freedom of speech complaints are actually freedom of attack desires--the equivalent of walking up to someone and yelling in there face. * It will be a community of communities among different network state communities--a large but not infinite tent. Others will be free to use the protocol (hopefully open sourced) to build their own communities. * 271 people were banned. 100 filed an appeal and ~67 of those were reinstated. By implication 171 did not appeal, and ~23 who appealed were not reinstated. Blocks and mutes played a role in who was banned especially relative to number of followers. * The terms of service were always in place on FC, but they weren't policed. If you are coming in and going to enforce standards, it doesn't matter how you do it, people are going to complain. We did it up front and clear. * The history of FC is (the arrival of) Friends (dan's) --> Farmers --> Flood --> Foes -> Finished --> (Hopefully) Phoenix * In the latter phases above, running FC was a thankless job ... a lot of good people left because of the attacks. People have 'learned' in social media that the way to resolve a dispute is to get online, frame it in the most incendiary terms possible, rouse a big mob, humiliate the other guy into submission and get clicks and engagement for it. * FC will be about blue ocean things not red ocean things. [AI note: Blue ocean things represent unthemed, uncontested market spaces where competition is irrelevant, while red ocean things represent existing, crowded industries where companies fight for market share]. 'I don't care about DAUs' * Self Improvement and learn and earn every day online. Opportunities to prove onchain your crypto credentials that will open new opportunities to earn. Take a proctored ETH SAT test, pass and receive an NFT that proves you are ready for new opportunities to earn as an ETH dev. * You have a crypto resume and crypto credentials with growing opportunities to learn and earn. Self growth and self improvement. Episode link starting at interview: youtu.be/yaobajMRpck?si=d3dYtttjjNhQZgRi&t=2128 Thanks to @nounishprof & @adrienne for making this happen and to @balajis.eth for taking the time.

  11. 🚨 Critical PHP Security Alert — PHP2Shell Two critical vulnerabilities (CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619) have been disclosed in PHP, both rated 9.2/10. Attackers may be able to execute code on vulnerable servers without authentication, potentially compromising websites and sensitive data. What should you do? āœ… Update PHP immediately to a patched version: 8.2.35, 8.3.36, 8.4.27, or 8.5.12 (or your Linux distribution’s security-patched packages). āœ… Restart PHP services and verify the update. āœ… Review server logs for suspicious activity. āš ļø Don’t assume your server is safe just because your website works! šŸ”—

  12. As a kid, I was drawn to Borges' Library of Babel (1941) novella and its mind-blowing premise of a boundless Library that contains every book that was ever written, as well as ever book that wasn't. I've now vibe coded a web-based walkable simulation of Borges' Library. It deterministically shelves 10^1,893,916 unique books of ~1M characters each. That's one followed by nearly two million zeros. If you kept repeating the word 'trillion' once per second, it would take you nearly 44 hours to verbalize that number. Use the terminal screen inside each gallery's alcove to search for any text or read any of the ~1K literature classics (copyright free) that I've uploaded. Also try sleeping in one of the beds. Feedback welcome. In an age where AI asymptotically brings the cost of producing utilitarian code to zero, I enjoy the idea of creating more whimsical and surreal unidentified software objects. 13. I mentioned ā€œCupertinoā€ today on GMFC — here’s a trailer. It’s a new tv show about lawyers in Silicon Valley and it’s really well done so far. Interesting characters and storylines focusing on civil law. On CBS and streaming on Paramount+. I think the first few episodes are streaming for free. (@pjc trailer below)

  15. Waiting for some major development in the Middle East, but I don’t know in which direction. On the one hand, Trump negotiating privately with Russia and China suggests he’s willing to give up Ukraine in return for a truce with Iran and a reopening of Hormuz ahead of the midterms. On the other, all non-emergency personnel and their families are being evacuated from US diplomatic missions across the Middle East, rather signaling a possible escalation.

  17. ALRIGHT, last update for today: i've created SHREKLET on quilcast.com (naming in progress), you can import wallets with seeds/private keys (they live only in browser, don't ever go anywhere) or create new wallets, AS MANY AS YOU WANT then you can use these wallets in miniapps that ALSO HAVE FULL SUPPORT ON QUILCAST i'm tired after this whole day of shipping, this wallet is probably the least secure way to store a wallet, so PLEASE do not import wallets that have any substantial money on them to a client THAT HAS OGRE MODE smh why do i even have to say this anyway, you guys asked for warplet, you got shreklet that barely works for fertching tokens/balances etc HEY BUT IT'S THERE and you can use it in miniapps will fix most of the issues tomorrow shrek is love, shrek is life

"If you think things are moving fast today...the world will never feel this slow again" I took a few months off from my substack, but an early cross country flight with wifi and a full cup of coffee rectified that I wrote about: - the pace of change and how we should avoid the trap of looking back - agentic payments, x402 and MPP, learning by doing - nervous system regulation - the paradox of freedom Would love to hear your thoughts if any of these things resonate with you

  19. > Perhaps the most important educational challenge of the AI era is not teaching people to code, prompt, or even critically evaluate machine-generated information. Those are useful skills, but they are downstream of something more basic: learning to maintain dynamically stabilized control over your own cognitive activity, and then extending that control to a coupled system with a powerful generative machine. this post from @vgr hits the trifecta: insightful reframe, fun visual, and makes me feel good by confirming what I already believe!

Product managers, if you felt a burning in your ears just now, this is your time to shine. Please bring suggestions to the protocol discussion board: github.com/orgs/farcasterorg/discussions CLIENTS: - Quorum, Quilcaster, opencaster, lectern, vibeshift, firefly (if @suji and co wants to move to hypersnap), and all the other projects in flight using hypersnap need a place where people can discover them and try them out.
