I still often think about the Westrum model for defining culture within an organization His research (from 40 years ago) characterized organizations as having one of three predominate cultures: 1) Pathological - power oriented, political, people hide information out of fear 2) Bureaucratic - rules oriented, "process for the sake of process", tends to create a lot of silos and illusion of progress 3) Generative - performance oriented, mission focused, people way more focused on value creation over internal politics and process If you've ever experienced true generative culture (which is quite common in tech companies), it's hard to work in any other type of environment

I’ve spent decades in 2) and it kills my soul. It’s why I generally go between 2) and then bounce into entrepreneurship or keep a side gig. (and why I’m dreading what I fear I must do 🤣)
There is nothing to fear but fear itself (and beurocracy)
oooo are you hitting close to home here 😂 i’ve experienced a true generative org on several film sets. a lot of the time the below the line talent is very much above the line at my work however where it’s family-run… 🤔 and i work with two cowboys. 🤦♂️
