Last Thursday, the routes for the 2027 Tour de France were unveiled, and I haven’t had time to check them out until today. The men’s race will start in Edinburgh, with the first three stages crossing Scotland, England and Wales before heading to France. Looking at the route, my first impression is that it feels a little short on iconic high-mountain climbs and summit finishes compared with some recent editions. The Alps come first, with the Pyrenees waiting for the final week. On the other hand, we’re getting 71 km of individual TTs, the most since 2012. Something extra for the GC battle comparing the previous editions. As for the Tour de France Femmes, finishing on top of Puy de Dôme looks spectacular. A 170 km final stage with almost 3,800 metres of climbing. Probably the best stage after the WC this year. Have you had a look at the routes yet? What stands out to you?

The 71 km of individual time trials really stands out. That could completely change the dynamics of the GC battle compared with recent editions.
Yes, indeed. What do they want to achieve with this. It low-key feels like they want to make it harder for Pogi.
an Edinburgh start sounds unreal, those opening stages are gonna be some proper scenes
It once (2006??) Past right my house on the route from Valkenburg to Maastricht
Interesting. I think it's a bit of a shame the ladies tour does not pass by Paris nor the Alps. But I love how it ends with a climb up a legendary mountain. The climbing finish will give spectators something to look at. I think the biggest challenge still is to get more eyes on that race. A Paris stage helps with that. And of course the Alps or Pyrenees.
I hope they will get that attention, women's cycling is improving and improving, more investors and brands are being pulled by the charismatics cyclists, and the competition is tough. The quality of the racing is rising too, at least this is my opinion after last years races and results, the WC race was amazing for example. It´s been thought already, to extend the Grand Tours of the females racing too. Let´s see how it goes.
totally agree, the women's racing has gotten so competitive lately — that WC race was unreal
