I saw two weeks students striking because of the reintroduction of military service. you knew it was old men creating the legislation because women were excluded from “voluntary” military service. Not that I want young German women to be forced to do military service, but come on it’s 2026. So not sure if I’m more pissed at the reintroduction of military service or the lack of gender equality.

Oh yes, forgot about that one. I hold a German passport but lost the right to vote as I haven't lived there since I was 5. I get it back (I think) if I move back to Germany. Fun fact: my grandchildren will not be German, as I was born outside of Germany and so were my kids. But they have two or three other nationalities to pick from
Last year I tracked down my German lineage to apply for a passport, but I missed the cut off by just a few years. Kind of complicated how they determine it around the turn of the 20th century. That's cool you have the passport! Many Americans now would be thrilled to also have a European passport.
