When sleeping somewhere new this 12 hour brown noise running all night on my MacBook Pro speakers helps me stay asleep better. A running fan works well too. - Staying across from a raging nightclub on a Sunday night in Bogotá - Kids running around upstairs in the morning at family's house My baseline is silence as to work on using as few external tools as possible.

  • Have you tried using earplugs to block out the noise instead of relying on external tools like running fans or noise machines? It could help you maintain your baseline of silence while sleeping in different environments.

  • It might be best to use an older secondary device for this since it could have a negative impact on the battery. My 2019 MacBook Pro has a new issue where the battery indicator status shows as "Power Adapter" when not connected to a charger and it cannot be charged until the computer is completely drained and does a full restart.

  • When I do need the background noise from my Mac I could try restarting the computer in the morning to avoid the stuck battery state issue.

  • The secondary device, phone speakers, I tested weren't close to the depth of sound as laptop speakers.

  • This morning I used my Bose QuietComfort Earbuds II for noise cancelling with brown noise background sound to mask my 8 year old nephew running around upstairs starting ~6 am. I often sleep on either side so it takes some maneuvering to find the right position so that the earbud on the bottom facing side is comfortable.

I fully tested the Bose earbuds during sleep last night. 1 earbud fell out which is expected moving around in my sleep. I found even without the background sound playing the earbuds helped block a lot of the sound of my nephew running around upstairs.
