Yeah, that's what I'm eyeing with this type of data. Although I do agree with your take that net usage isn't everything: absolutely hot metrics are meaningless when it's 99% spam and grifting. Conversely though, I think we're about to see a decline on all metrics across the board on original farcaster client: drop in usage, as well as drop in quality, engagement, and general free thinking. The only rise will be in grifting for those who wish to get a piece of the money Network State is dangling in front of them for "content". Wild times.
i agree that that's likely; i disagree that that's a problem for network state (as distinct from its current citizens). farcaster needs to die in order for network state farcaster to survive. some users will be trapped between a shrinking platform and @balajis.eth's gaslighting (i love this for them). the culture that replaces it will be sanctioned, corpo style grifting (dressed as education, probs) and linkedin-esque pandering and corpo-style virtue signaling (i work long hours, i love the new vanilla pudding in the cafeteria, i admire balajis' braveness, i exercise often so i can deliver better products for my clients, etc). subsidized by BS, it'll be purposefully boring and unimportant and safely within the moderation guidelines. but it won't be farcaster... because it won't come from farcasters.
I fully agree with this WakeTake™. At the same time, I couldn't give a fuck about their endgoals; I care only about the users and friends we made along the way. 🙏 They can circlejerk around on this pretend LinkedIn microcosm and play Overbearing BBS Sysop all they like, for all I care.
