I swear, Ram Altman, and to a lesser extent the other AI overlords, are destroying every area of consumer electronics. Fuck AI data centers, and fuck the hyperscalers!

Who are these new customers that "demand for NOR used in data centers"? This is another frontier. Saving physical media, and selling the public as to why it matters. Read More:
Nintendo is being crowded out directly on the foundry floor of Macronix by: - SpaceX contract for ruggedized NOR flash and eMMC NAND flash memory. Those are actually for low earth orbit satellites, not data centers. - Macronix makes flash components for NXP Semiconductors, who are the leaders in automotive professors. When it comes to AI, those names art public, but what I'm seeing says: "While the individual names of the data center clients are kept confidential under enterprise NDAs, financial analytics indicate where the hardware goes: • Macronix has joined the UCIe (Universal Chiplet Interconnect Express) consortium to develop data center enterprise chiplet packages. • Their data center NOR flash memory is being funneled into the hyper-scale AI server clusters operated by major cloud service providers (the primary buyers of AI infrastructure, such as Microsoft, Google, and Amazon Web Services) to handle secure system boot-ups, data encryption, and AI inference routing."
These ROM carts for physical games are now the FIFTH piece of the Switch 2 hardware/game production realm to be affected by this bs, joining the NAND flash used in the MicroSD Express cards used for storage expansion, the built in NAND flash storage in the system, the NVIDIA System-on-Chip (SoC) featuring Ampere/Ada Lovelace GPU architecture, and of course the DDR5Vmemory.
I bought two copies of the Zelda remake released this week, one to leave sealed till some undetermined point. This is the first time I've ever held onto an extra copy of a game and I've been a gamer for just shy of 40, going back to the NES. Part of my thinking was that the first run of the game has a special foil paper used for the cover art. They didn't do the gold cartridges like they've done with previous Zelda games, so I guess the idea is that the foil copies are the replacement. The other part of my thinking was related to how physical games are on their way out officially since Sony's PS6 announcement. The demand fir optical media (dual layer bluray discs) is only a tiny part of that, and only because many games are too big to fit on a single disc now. With this Micronix ROM issue there is now another reason why buying an extra copy was a good idea.
