I built this whole thing out today using Claude Opus 5.5, a bit of curiosity, and a dream. I originally created a version just for me (genuinecast) and quickly realized how easy it was, and how easy it would be, to create a clean, open-source version for the community. So, selfcaster was summoned.
So, what is it? Selfcaster is an open-source Farcaster client you host yourself. Newest first, every time. Your favorite channels as tabs. Photos, video and quote casts. Muted words and a quality dial. Seven themes. No algorithm, no wallet, no DMs. Setup is one Deploy button and about ten minutes. Runs on your own Vercel and Neynar key, both free for one person. Your recovery phrase signs once in your browser and never leaves it.
This has been minimally tested, but 'move fast and break things' as they say. DYOR and GLHF. If this has any use or sustained interest, I'll keep working on it, and I gladly welcome community contributions to the code as well -- that's what this whole thing is all about. higher together.

Does the neynar API work for stuff like this or is it censored
It works for everything. It’s the fire hose feed. There are some light quality controls built in, but for the most part, it’s the chronological feed with no algorithm

using the Neynar api for now and it works as expected bc it’s their own instance. I’m exploring the node route, but it’s like $300-500/mo which is too much for a weekend experiment.
