The median number of followers for people on Farcaster who have checked in at the Network School is 30. And an overwhelming majority of those people either have zero activity on their account for 6+ months or did not have accounts until the Network State acquisition, with little to no activity other since other than signing their code of conduct. These are not Farcaster users. These are not representatives of the culture that has grown here over many years. There are virtually no Network State citizens who are actively part of Farcaster. And yet these are now first class citizens of Farcaster. I do not begrudge the people who chose to call the Network School their home well before the acquisition. I don’t begrudge the ones packing up to head there now. I don’t begrudge the ones jumping onto Farcaster for the first time, and I hope they do become active members of this community. I don’t seek to “other” the citizens of the Network School who are just as swept up in this as the rest of us. But they have all opted in to that culture. That rule of law. Physically uprooted their lives and lifestyles to opt in. The rest of us, the ones who have been building here for years, contributing to its culture and its promise, finding solace in a safe digital space, woke up to the false choice to comply to this new code of conduct or exile ourselves. Many more were silenced without warning before they could even make that decision for themselves. Silenced by a code of conduct established by people who aren’t even an active part of this network. This screams of outside takeover, not peaceful transition of power. Digital colonialism, not democracy. The cleansing of the filth inside, rather than acceptance and coexistence of what exists and what remains. I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt. Remain cautiously optimistic. But the data doesn’t lie. How can these actions be in good faith of democracy when they are carried out by individuals that don’t even represent those they seek to govern? No amount of alternative clients will change that. Access to the network may be decentralized over time but what about power to shape the network beyond this nexus? Farcaster belongs to the people of Farcaster, and if this truly be a digital democracy then we have every right and responsibility to speak up and demand those in power do better, without fear of retribution or retroactive punishment.

  • Exactly. Balaji described his ideology as "tech Zionism" and now we are seeing that put into action through some sort of "digital ethnic cleansing"

Well that explains why Frametheglobe got banned as well as the other journalist and nearly everyone who was adamantly pro Palestine. There are all forms of other viewpoint discrimination that were arbitrarily human chosen in this ban. Meanwhile there is a large group of people saying that the AI mod was just following rules but this all was far too calculated and not done under some steadfast system.

Right, I think they targeted specific political views to some extent. Pretty much anyone that posted in /cryptoleft got hit

The AI was just doing as instructed--by a human. The AI is not at fault here, but the person in charge of instructing it.

Exactly all Pro Palestine folks got purged. So def the AI is being fed those rules by some zio supporter. Apparently the pro palestine cast shouldnt stop. The remaining ones should donthe need ful.

  • Couldn't have said it better myself. The "vote" was never a vote. The "democracy" is an absolute farce. Active Farcasters were placed under duress--isolated/unable to discuss with others, and then forced to sign to gain entry back to their home. Others were culled even before being offered a choice, for made up rules that were retroactively applied--something no self-respecting democracy would ever do.

  • To be clear this app isn't associated with the official NS team/ Farcaster at all. It's a side project I made to help onboard people at NS and make it easier for them to find their friends. Every NFT is personally issued by me IRL so I can attest they are real, just new.

You could have done that without doing so much to the rest

Any chance of querying how many of the yes voters from the top 100 followed accounts had at least one top level cast prior to the take over. I’d wager it’s 50% or lower. Many of them churned at first glance but I’ve been curious and wonder if it’s easier to compile the list from your app.

What I can tell you without a query is that their leader casted 5 times during the past year and he thinks he knows the culture. There was no election it was an invasion

  • This is good stuff and I like the way you are thinking. However, there are a few Network State citizens who are actively a part of Farcaster. @darrylyeo is nearest and dearest but I do know there are a few more. I feel the digital colonialism but am optimistic on how constraints may influence the creatively of the community moving forward. Do it for the culture.

  • ns is acting like a late stage nation - infinite capital access - loyalty gets you further than skill - maintaining status is a priority which leads to what we’re seeing - poor execution - aggressive silencing - ideology and legal - signing papers is the biggest achievement …

I'll stop here but these and other things are obvious to everyone and silencing doesn't make them go away it's been proven many times what those things lead to and will continue towards going forward and it's far from a happy place you can grow in etc.

I didn’t even see this until I onboarded to Firefly today. Wild. The complete lack of addressing this sentiment from the new leadership is very telling of where things are heading.

A small gift for darkest days. Thirty-seven sailors leaping, Through the raging waters sweeping, Flee the captain, madly steering, Toward a world of wild delusion.

agree. hence my undiluted opinion on the matter: there’s no going back. Farcaster survives through Hypersnap; Network State is… something else entirely. The skin of Farcaster, none of the values.
