  • Reposting what I said on X: I didn't participate much in /cryptoleft, but I lean that way politically and I thought the channel's existence was important. If everybody associates crypto w/ the right, then our industry will be seen in a negative light by default by roughly half of all people. I believe there are a lot of core values in crypto that align well with the left. Bitcoin was born out of the same disgust w/ the modern financial system as the Occupy Wall Street movement was. Decentralized/collective ownership of digital infrastructure is very aligned with progressive values. But those who have come to rule the industry in recent years seem to have forgotten, perhaps deliberately, so many of the core values that made Ethereum so exciting to me and many others in the early days. No wonder crypto has been demonized in recent years by politicians on the left. Crypto is inherently neither left nor right, which is to say there is room for agreement on both sides. But that's not how the public sees it these days. If the price of "civility" is banishing the handful of people who saw the opportunity for agreement with the left, then "civility" does more harm than good.
