I have an open letter in my head but haven’t had time to pen it. My friends go home Saturday so maybe I’ll have some time this weekend but here is my outline: - The Farcaster community is resilient and is used to murky rules and unwritten rules - We don’t like it, but we get it - We are NOT okay with retroactive rules. This is my biggest personal hang up and it will become my next target. I will transition from the “spam” girl to the “retroactive rules and ban girl” -The community is too small to fracture and there must be a way to repair it to move forward - I think it’s 100% fine to set new community guidelines I’m actually 1000% pro clear and transparent rules - I think all the bans should be lifted, and anyone who’s account was in jeopardy should be given the benefit of the doubt, reinstated, and given a clear appeals process to help the next iteration of the AI moderation get better. I think most people were accidentally caught up in AI nonsense and we need to fix it.

I fully agree with you, but as he has been minimising the banned user number, I'm bot sure he will pay attention. Also, for some parts the community is already fractured to what seems a point of no-repair. Hurtful things have been said that can't be unsaid, and in some cases people have made a choice out of convenience. Texts like "if you don't like me because I'm stll here, then I'm glad you're gone" are a strong signal of people wanting to believe the rumours and not having the will to crosd any divide. And it's not just sime users, it's people I saw as leaders in the community. We have work to do if we want to mend that fracture. And even if I'm unsure it can be mended, I will stand with you in trying.
If I had logged in and my account had been banned, I would have been so hurt and frustrated. I can imagine that if you’ve put YEARS into this place, are a real human being and have not been an obvious wallet draining scam account, a ban would be DEVASTATING. I would have reacted poorly. I only use this place as my socials. If it was suddenly gone, I would have freaked out. I can’t be mad at anyone caught in the crosshairs. They have every right to be mad, frustrated, upset, and pissed off about retroactive bans. I think it’s an uphill battle. I don’t think all hope is lost. I won’t be mad if people picked sides. I would have picked one too if I got caught in the ban wave and I may have given up on this place. I feel their frustration. I don’t think it will be easy but I think this place is worth fighting for.
Here with you. But to be clear, my examples were not from the banned. Maybe they've said things in desperation. But you can't hold that against them. Also: one of us may have received a ban just now. Your reply was not loading in my fc client....
I think we should make a concerted effort to build bridges. I failed at one, because I may have come across as too preachy. But I think on both sides, I am trying to speak up for empathy and kindness.
Can speak for a previously banned user. It didn’t feel great and still unclear as they didn’t give specific reasons but after looking at farcaster.xyz/~/code feel I was likely caught in the crossfire from some out of context politically incorrect bullshit But the appeal process was quick and required little effort

Hey, really appreciate your sentiment here, but I will never be back no matter what they do and by the number of folks I see actually burning their Yes vote, I don't think I am alone. I was banned and I think most of the bans occurred because we are the folks he knows vehemently disagree with his philosopjy and we are the ones most likely to call out his bullshit for what it is. Even without the banning or the vote or anything else, the second I heard it was Balajis taking over, I would have been all in on Quorum/Hypersnap. He's a POS with an agenda of tribal and corporate dictatorships for the world and this is his petri dish. I already am on a network owned by a POS right wing nut job that wants to tell humans how to live, why would I have a second one? His takeover just exposed how fucking stupid sufficiently decentralized actually was. Having a dependency on human decisions will always lead to shit actions by those in control and Balajis did us a favor by exposing it for what it was.
There have been moments that don’t feel at all like the Farcaster we signed up for. It feels weird. I’m not comfortable.

100% There’s no such thing as “retroactive rule”, it is political lingo and enforcing it is called exercise of arbitrary power. Nulla poena sine lege No punishment without law. @balajis.eth Positive retroactive ruling exists as restitutions and remedies. Time to do that, heal the wound and grow your vision on a clean base.

100% agree with all the above. Banning people who have been here for years for rules that didn't exist before just doesn't make sense
Appreciate this... From an alt client since I was banned, so you may not see this. I post 99% food pics, trees, songs, politics, art, and the solidarity channel. Not sure what they banned me for because I'm pretty strictly nonviolent in my language and don't use slurs or anything. Probably just for being an anti capitalist. But I wouldn't sign the fascist pledge either way. I don't care if they unban me I wouldn't come back. Farcaster the crypto social network is over, at least under that name. Hypersnap is the way forward for anyone who cares about free speech or anti-fascism or anti-authoritarianism. See you all on Quorum 🤝
