aye. made the torturous (but morally sound) choice to kill her humanely. and while it was the right thing to do, i will never forgive myself.

  • The difference in lifespans is cruel. Sending you love

thanks. and agree. i'm not sure i would change that, though; their relatively brief lifespan is part of the special sauce. their death /should/ be tragic. george carlin understood this. and now... so do i. because the grief is proportional to the love, it should hurt like a mother fucker if you did your job right. and... it does. because i did. no regret. only grief.

When my partner and daughters dad died everyone was trying to slip me prescriptions. It bewildered me because like I wasn’t supposed to feel okay. I understood was better for them to not see me like that but it still made me feel some kind of way

I can’t find a clip but I did find the quote from a Six Feet Under monologue S1E4 "Why do we gotta hide it? Why do we gotta dress it up in a nice suit and put it in a box? Why can't we just pack it in ice and leave it in the living room? Why do we gotta make it look like they're just sleeping? They're not sleeping, they're dead. Why can't we just howl? In some cultures, they hire women to just sit by the body and wail for three days straight. I think that's a lot healthier." One of my favorite shows of all time btw. Best writing about life and death

  • I'm so sorry to hear that. I've been through it also and it's brutal. The vet said that people often wait too long the first time they have to make the decision. Even though you know it's the only option, it's still so hard.

i probably did wait too long. but without an obvious tell, you do the best you can. reconciling my commitments to "best life" and "dignified death" took... work and... bitter honesty about what she had already lost. life isn't always worth living and that makes me sad.
