I'm starting to semi automate the morning coffee pour over process by pre grinding beans and filling up the hot water kettle the night before. ☕️🌃

  • do you notice any difference in aroma and taste?

Great question. The locally roasted coffee beans I've been brewing in the Chicago suburbs area haven't been great so it'd be hard to notice a difference in flavor. Once I'm back in the Washington DC area I'll pre grind my beans the night before to compare. It'd also be a fun blind taste test experiment to see if someone can tell.

So far the okay beans aren't any worse pre grinding. I also put the pre ground beans in the fridge and covered them (Not completely airtight though since I left them in the removable grinder container).

Somewhat related refrigerating left over hot brewed pour over coffee with decent beans turns out nice and smooth the next morning.

I sometimes do this with my espresso for my latte too, a slightly different set of aroma and taste

Today I was thinking about the coffee flavor with the beans that are okay when brewed normally. I almost want to say the same beans pre-ground taste better today. - It could be due to the refrigeration overnight... - Or it could just be due to do a slower pour today...

  • The grind first thing is extremely jarring. You may be on to something.
