Show the cast this replies tosnapchain, for now, receives shared message types (casts, likes, etc). i doubt they'll keep it compatible, they already made an "emergency" security update that changed block headers (unrelated to the actual security concerns in the update). we are no longer following snapchain on our side, so any further breakage they do is their decision to make. but that said, people like me who were purged dissenters cannot be seen on nsfc regardless of snapchain replicating the data.

I had thought Hypersnap was being forked so it would be independent. I was reacting to the comment above about Farcaster changing to network state without free speech as a stated goal, and if that’s the case, people should be able to support both as different projects with different goals?

it is independent, that doesn't mean we're going to isolate users on snapchain or prevent people from interacting with them – we're adding a relay so when the fork block is reached, messages that are compatible can go between networks. what i mean is that compatibility is _theirs_ to break. we're not going to do anything to break compatibility. they have already demonstrated they will do so with two hour's notice. people are free to support both ideas in parallel, but when the reality of what that "choice" to no longer honor free speech turned out to be – a silencing of critics, people posting LGBT content, anyone on one side of the political spectrum – kicking people out retroactively, with no notice of new "rules", banning their access to speak with their friends (DMs), it's clear this is motivated beyond what the public statement is.

defend it if you like, but people will remember that when the "experiment" dies due to everyone coming over to the actually neutral side of the fork. we'll never forbid you from speaking, but conversely, people will not be forbidden from reminding you of what choice you made in defending this blatant suppression.
Would be easier to support NS if their actions showed they cared about anything the network was founded on. “Sufficient decentralization” goes out the window when you don’t allow community validators, push breaking changes without warning, and won’t even speak with community protocol devs. I understand NS has other ideas they want to pursue but let’s not pretend the FC community came here because we were promised “clean speech”. Community members were banned without warning. That’s not a call for co-existence.
Do you feel like you need to support NS though? Totally respect people who hear what’s it about, or observe how they operate and say “no thanks, not for me”. The thing that hurts me the most is why it’s not ok for some people to stick around to see what happens, and still be able to keep relationships and communicate with people on other mediums
Confused on the “without warning” — there was a week between announcement and update and then one other that was due to security issue that was announced to node runners. But anyway — from what I understand, the FC client is going to be something completely different so a fork and other clients are probably for the best. Also, they intend to make everything open under MIT license. Not sure how this is all going to work out. BUT a lot of folks like Murtaza were long gone before this acquisition due to other reasons (like not vibing with token focus). You had even drifted off. Seems like this brought some folks back regardless of which client they decide to use. But also many others (who I miss) will probably not return to any client. That time has passed unfortunately. We’re in a new season.
