Several people have told me they got mass deplatformed from Farcaster over the past few weeks. Is this going on?
Yes, absolutely. People have been even banned retroactively for posts they made over a year ago, in a thread that was already deleted. It is for this reason that everyone is mobilizing and moving over to alternative clients and hypersnap, so the original and true decentralised vision of Farcaster can actually become a reality. The "vote" was an absolute sham, locking users out of everything unless they signed. So more like duress, and definitely nothing like a democratic vote as NS keeps touting--just agreement to TOS/EULA. I could go on and on. Tagging some others who were directly impacted: @Trish @statuette. I personally was not banned, but I refuse to opt into the absolute clownworld of the SoCiAl cOnTrAcT, so I've moved over to hypersnap and am even developing my own client there. I suggest you take a look and feel free to join the rest of us, on alternative clients that place zero restrictions on who you can talk to and engage with! The old Farcaster still exists, they're just trying to hide it!
this is real buddy and just to confirm, u will not see this cast unless you are using alts
Yes, actually your cast has more comments on the other side (alt clients)
Yeah the entirety of /cryptoleft mod team was banned for various reasons, pretty much explicity pro Palestine account got banned from the jump, several people got banned for anti musk posts
A reply to you from a deplatformed user. I don’t think you’re able to see @arfonzo
tankz very much frenpai! Ironic, that you are now getting more engagement that is being hidden from you on the farcaster client, than within the farcaster client itself. Right?
Honestly an underrated feature of being deplatformed is that we are the ones who call see all of these responses

Yep, it happened, and other than people showing you screenshots you won't see it on the main client. And there are some people on fc right now that you have considered to be friends, who are fully aware this happened, and happy about it happening. The network state is a cancer. People leaving it is chemo.
Hard to generalize, but I haven’t talked to anyone, or know anyone, who is saying they are happy this happened 😢

those who defend the boots on the neck are happy with the boots on the neck
whilst i believe you that nobody you’ve talked to is happy about it, balaji doesn’t need people to be happy as he has already pointed out previously that the yes votes are evidence of support keeping the nft is a signal that he points to as acceptance - whilst there’s nuance for the individual, balaji gets to tell a much simpler story
Small percentage of people got deplatformed from the main Farcaster client. Of those, some filed an appeal and rejoined. New owners are enforcing a code of conduct to promote civility. It was applied retroactively to past casts, which, putting aside the debate about the merits of the policy for a moment, just went against people's innate sense of 'fairness', which heightened emotions on all sides. Balajis came on our show, and in typical Balaji fashion, talked for hours. I thought it was really interesting and enlightening. If you don't have 3 hours, Brad shared some highlights: farcaster.xyz/bradq/0xe965f3cc Here's the episode if you want to listen, he starts 35 minutes in , or you can copy the transcript into an LLM and ask for a summary

29 Seconds of @balajis.eth on /gmfarcaster ... What did you miss? A 2.5 hr marathon...here's your 29 seconds+ * In one sentence: Crypto civilization not crypto anarchy. Anarchy is better than totalitarianism but it leaves you out in the forest with no home. You need to re-civilize which is basically civilization. * The Farcaster 'meme' is not building or trading, but earning--or earn and learn. * I (balajis) don't believe the world needs another social network, another crypto trading app, or even another uncensored anything. * We want a thank you culture, not a *blank* you culture. Be polite or go find another client. There will be FCC broadcast standards (American TV & radio standards for what can air on broadcast TV)--figuratively speaking. A lot of freedom of speech complaints are actually freedom of attack desires--the equivalent of walking up to someone and yelling in there face. * It will be a community of communities among different network state communities--a large but not infinite tent. Others will be free to use the protocol (hopefully open sourced) to build their own communities. * 271 people were banned. 100 filed an appeal and ~67 of those were reinstated. By implication 171 did not appeal, and ~23 who appealed were not reinstated. Blocks and mutes played a role in who was banned especially relative to number of followers. * The terms of service were always in place on FC, but they weren't policed. If you are coming in and going to enforce standards, it doesn't matter how you do it, people are going to complain. We did it up front and clear. * The history of FC is (the arrival of) Friends (dan's) --> Farmers --> Flood --> Foes -> Finished --> (Hopefully) Phoenix * In the latter phases above, running FC was a thankless job ... a lot of good people left because of the attacks. People have 'learned' in social media that the way to resolve a dispute is to get online, frame it in the most incendiary terms possible, rouse a big mob, humiliate the other guy into submission and get clicks and engagement for it. * FC will be about blue ocean things not red ocean things. [AI note: Blue ocean things represent unthemed, uncontested market spaces where competition is irrelevant, while red ocean things represent existing, crowded industries where companies fight for market share]. 'I don't care about DAUs' * Self Improvement and learn and earn every day online. Opportunities to prove onchain your crypto credentials that will open new opportunities to earn. Take a proctored ETH SAT test, pass and receive an NFT that proves you are ready for new opportunities to earn as an ETH dev. * You have a crypto resume and crypto credentials with growing opportunities to learn and earn. Self growth and self improvement. 💔 I’m sorry if I disappointed you by not acting in the way you wanted me to. Last words I heard from you were “say my name” and I tried reaching out. Was hoping we could build a relationship somewhere else.
I recommend using a different client to see all of the replies to this!
Hope to see you on the alt client side Murtaza. Hypersnap is the fork which cares about free speech. Farcaster was changed to be an internal chat for a private group and no longer has free speech as a goal or value.
yes but your casts will also show up on the farcaster protocol (whilst you’ve still voted yes and unless you get shadow banned) which means you can cast but under the jurisdiction of the nsfc

it's because they're on the fork. join us, we have clients (many of which do not have cookies)

GM, I'm thought the algo had made me invisible for casting links to an app I built. Literally, nobody tried it, liked the cast, and recasted any of my casts in a long time. It changed after I was flagged as a degen tip farmer, then it got worse when you had to recast, and follow to use the frame deal made me even more spammy. Can you give me a quick interview about my project?
I’ve been told that my cast might be hidden. Not sure if tagging was the issue here, so here is a recast of what I replied to you earlier with as an experiment (Just the image from a hidden reply)
If you reply to someone who has not accepted the new terms of service, it won’t show on main client.
Thanks Nounish for the clarification I thought it might have been the tag that was the culprit there.
There’s a new reply for you from @mvr: “Yeah, lot's of bans but also the people you follow and didn't vote are hidden from you in de NS client” If Farcaster hides it, read the full conversation in Vibeshift or another client.
recommend you try importing your farcaster account into quilcast.com instead for a change
hopefully others say this too because he probably cant see me since i havent signed yes
Most people just went to Hypersnap (Quorum, Vibeshift, Quilcast, etc.) voluntary. 😆 @jutta #unhide
@cryptonjal tipped McUrinator (McWarp's NFTs) to @mazmhussain! 219 artworks left to tip

I think deplatforming is not fully the case, as there are alternatives to stay on the platform. Just not via the main client. What people need to understand is that a small percentage got banned for things they did that were "legal" at the time. A larger percentage chose not to sign the new Network Code out of principle and other reasons. These users have mostly found their way to other clients, but their posts are no longer visible in the main Farcaster client. I think this is important: for the full experience, you need to use (at least once in a while) alternative clients. If you like the policies as set out in the Network Code, the main client is the place for you. But people and casts are a restricted subset of the total. As long as you realise that, and it's a concious choice, I think that should be fine.
We need people to stop just calling it a small percentage. Was it a small percentage relative to the mass bot and farming accounts on here? Yes. But it was a SIGNIFICANT % of the daily active users on here.
